For those familiar with our First Phrases app, the subsequent offering, Fun with Verbs & Sentences, provides an enhanced learning experience tailored for young children developing their sentence-building skills. Designed specifically for children aged 2 to 5, this application emphasizes the understanding of verb tenses in past and present forms, as well as foundational syntax structures, through engaging visual and interactive methods.

The app features vibrant color illustrations and includes 45 animated sequences aimed at illustrating action words effectively. Developed exclusively for the iPad and intended for single-user interaction, the application presents three core verbs per sentence type, including: catch, eat, fall, go, hide, jump, play, push, sing, and sneeze. Users seeking to elicit sentence formations and verb forms can utilize the "Watch & Say" feature—also useful for assessment purposes—where verbs are chosen from options or randomly selected alongside target syntax structures.

The primary activity, Build a Sentence, involves sequential steps:

• Step 1: Select a subject character from options of a boy, girl, or bear.
• Step 2: Choose a verb from the set of catch, eat, or push.
• Step 3: Pick an object or prepositional phrase for the sentence completion.

The narration plays each segment of the sentence at a slow pace while revealing associated imagery sequentially. Once completed, the narrator rephrases the sentence more quickly—for example, "The girl is eating a carrot"—and encourages the child to reproduce it. An animation representing the entire sentence then plays with optional sound effects; in present tense mode, the animation loops seamlessly. The child is prompted to describe what is happening in their own words.

The app also offers data tracking features suitable for clinical or educational observation (customizable within settings). When past tense verbs are selected, animations display once with prompts such as "What happened?" Alternatively, targeting specific verb aspects can be configured with tailored questions like "What is the girl doing?" or "What did the girl do?"

An optional reward game called the "Pop It!" game allows children to interact with bubbles on-screen in search of prizes at intervals determined by the facilitator.
